*Advanced Enameling : The Art of Cloisonné

In this two day workshop students will learn about the exquisite enamelingtechnique Cloisonné. The French word “cloison” meaning compartments orcells, refers to the process where flattened wire is formed to create shapeson the enameled surface and then layer by layer, with firings in between,these compartments are filled with color enamel. This technique concludeswith wet polishing the surface and re-firing to increase the shine and depth.This amazing technique that dates back hundreds of years is one of the mostbeautiful processes in enameling. Students will leave with a piece of jewelryto be treasured.

Bangles: Soldering 1

Learn to size, solder, shape and hammer your own set of exquisite bangle bracelets. Using 14 - 18 gauge silver and copper wire students will construct several basic bangles, solder the seams, shape and finish with a hammered texture. This is a great review for those who have previous soldering skills, and beginners are also welcome. This workshop is offered twice.

Bangles: Soldering 1 Workshop

Basic Bead Stringing

In this technique class, you will learn about the different materials and tools used for stringing beads in a manner that will hold up over time. This will include the use of soft-flex and crimp beads, knotting between beads and applying bead tips, and attaching cord crimps and a clasp to leather cording. You will leave class with samples to refer to for future stringing projects. All materials are included in the class fee. Each workshop meets once.

Basic Bead Stringing Workshop

Basics of Bead Embroidery

Bead embroidery is a timeless technique which can add depth, dimension and visual interest to virtually any project. In class, we will focus on making a pendant which can either stand alone or be incorporated into a more elaborate piece. Students will learn couching, backstitch, lazy stitch, boucle stitch, fringe, edging, and more.

Basics of Bead Embroidery Workshop

Beaded Braid & Chain

With endless possible color combinations, this is a perfect project for playing with texture and dimension. Students will learn to crimp, work with chain and jump rings, and create a five-strand braid. Suitable for beginners.

Beaded Braid & Chain Workshop

Bezel Set Pendant

In this advanced workshop students will learn the art of setting cabochon cut stones into a traditional bezel setting. Students will size, cut and construct a soldered silver pendant with a cabochon setting in silver bezel wire. Once constructed, we will explore different finishing techniques for a matte or polished ring finish. Stones will be provided by the instructor and included in your class fee. Previous soldering experience is required for this workshop.

Cage Wrapping Workshop

Cold Connections

Cold connections are wonderful ways to create interesting, multi-layer designs without the use of soldering. This class will introduce you to basic metal-working techniques such as piercing, sawing and drilling. We will focus strongly on setting rivets and tube rivets to connect design elements. We will also talk about other cold connections, in addition to texturizing and finishing. Come with a simple-to-saw design in mind and/or pre-fabricated pieces you can construct into layers and leave with at least one finished piece, possibly more. This is a great way to expand your jewelry-making abilities!

Enameling is the ancient art form of fusing glass onto metal. Students will be introduced to the basics of enameling which include sifting, layering, stencil in patterns and introduction to using foils. You will also learn basic sawing skills with the jewelers saw as students will pick from 3 design shapes to create beautiful enameled earrings or a necklace.

Enameling II

This six hour workshop will focus on further exploration of basic enamelingtechniques including the mixing of colors, using foils, and learning about themany ways enamels can be applied to achieve certain effects. You will beintroduced to ceramic pencils and painting with liquid enamels as part of newand different approaches to the art enameling. Students will choosebetween creating a necklace, 1 or 2 pair of earrings, or a decorative tilepiece. Students should have previous experience with enameling.

Etched Metal Beads

Ever wonder what to use tubing for in your designs? In this class studentswill create different lengths of brass and copper tubing and then createdesigns or patterns on the metal lengths by etching the surface of the metal.These pieces can then be finished with a patina and will be ready to bestrung and worn alone or used as components in a larger piece or series.Beginners are welcome!

Findings

Free-form Stone Setting Workshop

Fused Silver Links

Learn the art of fine silver fusing in this new offering. Using the torch, you will fuse large and small fine silver links, without the use of solder, to create a beautiful graduated silver link necklace. Once constructed you will finish the links with a hammered texture and patina for a truly handmade & artisan look. You will also learn how to make and fuse fine silver jump rings. This is a great class for beginners and for those wanting to add a new skill to their bag of tricks.

This class is a basic introduction to flat peyote stitch, a long revered and very useful beading technique. We will be learning the basics of flat peyote, using size 8 Japanese seed beads. The class will focus applying this technique to the creation of a peyote stitch bracelet. This stitch can be used as a base for many more complex seed bead projects and is an essential skill for the seed bead artist!
